Getting the Best Out of Online SRM Training

We all know that our agency does things a little differently than other agencies, right?  So, after watching online SCEIS training, some of us have questions like, “How will my agency handle this process?” and “What code should I enter in this field?”

While online training has many perks, (it is much more cost effective and less time-consuming than traditional classroom training, to name a couple) sometimes follow-up discussion is needed.

The SCEIS Team has put together a list of ways your agency can reinforce SRM online training:

  • After completing online training, gather SRM users together for a follow-up meeting to answer any questions they may have and go over agency-specific processes.
  • Can’t get everyone together in one room for discussion?  Try having small SRM user group discussions within divisions of your agency, or at your various district or satellite offices.
  • Have access to WebEx, or another teleconferencing tool?  Set up a WebEx for your agency’s SRM users to ask questions and get pertinent information.
  • Is your agency a SharePoint user?  Set up a SharePoint page where users can ask questions.  Designate a group of knowledgeable SRM users responsible for answering the questions.  You can also distribute cheat sheets and agency-specific instructions through SharePoint as well.

Compile a list of any questions that cannot be answered by your agency and send them to sceis@sceis.sc.gov .  The SCEIS Team can respond to those tough questions!

Check out these other suggestions for getting the most out of online training - while viewing the course!

  • Minimize distractions (as much as possible) - I’ve even seen co-workers post a sign on their desk/cube saying “Please do not disturb, I’m e-Learning!”
  • Print the course notes prior to watching the online course so you can follow along, highlight important steps, etc.
  • Write down questions you have during or immediately after the course.  They will be fresh on your mind!

Below is a list of the upcoming SRM 7.2 online training courses.  These courses will be available beginning Monday, October 21, 2013. Click here for details on each course.
